Kanye vs. Taylor

Ok, did anyone happen to watch the MTV Video Music Awards? I missed them, but I did catch wind of the incident between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. Apparently, Taylor beat Beyonce for a VMA and Kanye did not feel that Taylor should win. During her acceptance speech, he took the mic and interrupted Taylor to give Beyonce some support. He told the crowd that he was "happy for Talor," but felt that Beyonce had the best video of all time. Check out the video here. Crazy, eh?? I think that his outburst was completely rude, and selfish. Now, here's the best part of the story... Beyonce won an award later in the night, and during her acceptance speech, she asked Taylor to come to the stage to have "her moment." I thought this was awesome. I've always loved Beyonce, but this was above and beyond. She's a class act! -h

Hitting the Nail on the Head

"Government-run health care is something we simply cannot afford, and I know that the majority of Americans agree with me that it is not the quality of health care that needs reforming, but the cost."

This is a quote from John McCain on the current health care proposal. I absolutely agree and this phrase precisely describes the problem. I just thought I would share! Have a happy Friday! -h

Congressional Address

Oh, I couldn't resist blogging on today's "hot topic." It's all over the news. Have you heard about South Carolina R-Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during last night's presidential address? If not, watch the video here. In my opinion, the outburst was completely unprofessional and rude, however, I can't deny that many of us agree with Joe Wilson's feelings. President Obama endured a tough crowd last night as he attempted to explain his "new" healthcare proposal. The address was frustrating to watch, though I think we've come a long way from the nationalized healthcare plan that was initially proposed. Obama and his crew have drafted many copies of healthcare reform and last night's explanation of the "new" plan was no clearer than the first proposal. Now, I DO feel that the "new" plan seems better and more appropriate, however, I'd like to see it on paper before I buy in. I'm feel that there are still changes to be made, but the proposal is sounding better. I'm not comvinced yet. The devil is in the details. -h

Frustration

I am frustrated. Yep, it's another "let me just vent for a moment" post. I am just frustrated. I know of a child who is a poster-child for abuse and neglect. I won't go into details because it's absolutely tear-jerking, however, it was a no-brainer to report this child to child protection. I've come to know and love my local child protection system and while our relationship is seamless, I'm a bit disappointed, today. This child's case is absolutely heart breaking. Here are a couple of questions that I'd like you to ponder: What happens when an already inundated protection agency doesn't (theoretically) have time to thoroughly investigate your case? What happens when the local judge is so hard on protection agency workers that even THEY don't trust or press the system? What happens when people making decisions for the welfare of our children aren't educated enough to understand the magnitude of what's happening? FRUSTRATION. ::sigh:: Just another day at the office. -h

09/10/09 Update- By the grace of God, the child's case (mentioned above) was investigated futher by a child protection supervisor, and the child was removed from the situation. Happy endings do exist! -h

Three Interesting Facts That I Learned Today:

1) Michael Jackson has not been burried yet. WOW! Hasn't it been about 2 months?? That can't be a smart move...

2) People can be identified by the serial numbers in their breast implants. (Don't even bother checking if I croak tomorrow. Dental records and fingerprints will have to do.)

3) Carrying three cell phones at one time is a bad idea. Performing such a task can lead to severe panic attacks and psychological breaks.

Makeover!

I've been watching too much HGTV! haha... I figured it was time for my blog to get a makeover. Whatcha' think? I like it... though I may change the background to something brighter. Nate comes home from the Iowa State Fair on Tuesday! I'm so excited. We've been apart for about 3 weeks! Oh, I never reported on my visit! I went to the Iowa State Fair last weekend- it was AWESOME! The fair is such a family-friendly, fun place! There were lots of competitions in woodworking, photography, textiles, food, plants and more! There were loads of 4H and FFA competitions. There were also lots of animals. When I got to the fair, the Belgian horses had just arrived for their show(s). They're such beautiful animals! Nate and I spent a lot of time walking through the barns. We also went to a few concerts. I got to see the Nadas!! They're an alternative band from Iowa and I just love their music. Unfortunately, my stay was short, but I'm going to try and go again next year! -h
